The Metropolitan Police Department asks drivers to cooperate in the following ways in the event of a major earthquake(at or above a lower 6 on the seismic intensity scale).

Don’t use a car.

  • Don’t go out
    by car.
  • Don’t drive once
    you’ve reached
    your destination.
  • Stop your car in a best available space off the road such as a parking lot.

Various traffic restrictions will be in place.

  • ●Traffic on the Kannana-dori Ave. heading for central Tokyo will be restricted.
  • ●The expressways and six regular roads will be designated as
    “Routes for Authorized Emergency Vehicles Only.”
    Consequently, the passage of ordinary vehicles will be blocked.
  • ●Depending on a state of disaster damage and traffic condition, roads to be designated will be different.

FIRST STAGE RESTRICTION

Traffic on the Kannana-dori Ave. heading for central Tokyo will be blocked. The expressways and six regular roads will be designated as “Routes for Authorized Emergency Vehicles Only.” Consequently, the passage of ordinary vehicles will be blocked.

can be used as a detour only.


  • Roads (regular roads) to be designated as “Routes for Authorized Emergency Vehicles Only”
  • Roads (expressways) to be designated as “Routes for Authorized Emergency Vehicles Only”

SECOND STAGE RESTRICTION

Roads that have been designated as "Routes for Authorized Emergency Vehicles Only" during the first stage restriction will be prioritized in being designated as "Emergency Access Roads" and closed off to ordinary vehicles. Certain other roads may also be designated as Emergency Access Roads if necessary.
